| Tale of woe leads to neighborly Good Samaritan |

It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon when the four members of the Edwards family decided to take a bike ride. The youngest rider, fourth-grader Jeremy, pulled up near Willow Glen Elementary on Minnesota to wait for his brother (eighth grader) Greg, who was across the street. But father Andrew wasn’t looking at Jeremy and rode straight into the back wheel of the youngster’s bicycle, causing a freak accident.
Within seconds, Andrew had flipped over his handlebars and landed on his back with the full weight of his bicycle on top of him, breaking three ribs and puncturing a lung. Fire Station 4 reopens amid fun, frolic and food
There were speeches, of course, but there was also a lot of fun and laughter, not to mention a great lunch when Fire Station 4 at 710 Leigh Avenue reopened on Aug. 6. The grand re-opening featured Mayor Ron Gonzales, District 6 City Councilmember Ken Yeager and San Jose Fire Chief Jeff Clett among others.
At least 60 people watched the ribbon-cutting ceremony, the first of three ceremonies during August to reopen fire stations remodeled through Measure O, passed in 2002. Besides the ceremonies, there were activities for everyone, including the kids, and lunch was served by folks from the Sherman Oaks Community Center.
