Reading across America: Shallenberger Elementary celebrates with Dr. Seuss
Every year on Dr. Seuss’ birthday, children in elementary schools across the county take a special day for reading. It’s no different at Shallenberger Elementary in Willow Glen where students from kindergarten through fifth grade celebrate the day.
This year on March 2, the children in Mrs. Hoge’s first grade class got a special treat. Charlie Orr, a former principal at Shallenberger from 1970 to 1986, came in to read to the children. Orr is from Willow Glen, his grandchildren attended Schal-lenberger and one grandson, who is now a freshman in high school, was in Mrs. Hoge’s first grade class.
