Although there was some room to dance, it was standing-room only at Music in the Glen on Thursday, July 28.

The annual five-week free summer concert series has been stretched to six weeks this year due to rain on July 21.
The Hitmen played on July 28. They will be followed on Aug. 4 by Willow Glen favorite Joe Scharino and Aug. 11 by Sage. All concerts are held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on the grass playground behind Willow Glen Elementary School.
Kids are more than welcome too. Children are welcome to dance and/or play on the field or at the school’s playground. Even dogs were present, and although all were on leash, some appeared to be keeping the beat to the music. While most people were listening to the music, others were having picnics or just relaxing after a hard week of work.
This is the fourth year that the Willow Glen Sunrisers Kiwanis Club has put on the concerts. People from all over San Jose are welcome to bring a lawn chair or mat and enjoy the music. Also available are hot dogs, chips, nachos, chili, popcorn and soft drinks.
All the money earned from food sales or donated goes to charity. Half of the money is given to the Willow Glen Elementary PTSA with the other half going to charities supported by the Kiwanians including Sacred Heart, California Parks Ministry, InnVision, Turn Around Scholarships and the Little League among others.
The sponsors pay for the bands. This year’s sponsors include Peak Travel, Edward Jones Investments, Aqui Restaurant, Michael Ortegon Realtor, Bob Lewis Volkswagen, US Bank, Micki Muir Management, Countrywide Home Loans—Jordi Martorell, Alain Pinel Realtors—Lisa Perez, The Screen Shop and Ledyard Food Distribution of Santa Cruz.
Up to now, Willow Glen has been home to two Kiwanis Clubs, the Sunrisers and the Willow Glen Kiwanis. The two have now merged into the Willow Glen Sunrisers. They hold weekly meetings for breakfast at 7:30 a.m. at Atria Chateau Gardens on Pedro. For more information about the club, phone them at (408) 799-5068, e-mail Dorothy Crownover at jimdocrown@aol.com or Jerry Chapman at pastorjerry@sanjosefoursquare.org or snail mail them at P.O Box 8643, San Jose, CA 95155.
