California Theatre Center (CTC) presents “The Woman in Black,” returning to Sunnyvale by popular demand is of one of CTC’s greatest hits! A thrilling, edge-of-your seat ghost story! Performances are May 31 (Preview), June 1 (Opening) and selected dates through July 26. June 8 – July 27
California Theatre Center (CTC) presents “They're Playing Our Song”. This Broadway hit musical by Neil Simon, Marvin Hamlisch and Carol Bayer Sager is based on the real-life relationship of songwriters Hamlisch and Sager. Composer Vernon who is in need of a new lyricist, meets kooky, incurable romantic Sonia, and they dislike each other at first sight. Clearly the match is not one made in heaven! The two undergo a series of trials and overcome a number of hurdles before finding true love by the final curtain. Performances are June 7 (Preview), 8 (Opening), with various dates continuing through July 27. Matinees performances are also available. July 13 – August 4
The Sixth Annual Los Gatos Shakespeare Festival presents three plays in repertory for its 2007 season in Oak Meadow Park, Los Gatos. Opening the season is William Shakespeare’s romantic adventure story, “Pericles, Prince of Tyre”, presented in the classical storytelling style of the 1001 Arabian Nights and directed by Bruce De Les Dernier. Following will be the timeless tale of power and politics, "Julius Caesar." The season will also include the rollicking comedy “Tartuffe” by Moliere; directed by Amy Himes.

The festival has a number of free events lined up this season, including a stage reading of one of next years’ productions “The Further Adventures of the Three Musketeers”; as well as our Camp Shakespeare youth conservatory class performances. Youth Dance Company Auditions: Ladies and gentlemen ages 7 to 25 with performance experience are requested to email their resume to DTIdance@sbcglobal.net and schedule an audition by July 31. Calling all 5-10 year olds to get busy learning about bees! Join the Friends of Guadalupe River Park & Gardens from 10 – 11:30 a.m. for a look inside an observation hive watching bees at work – can you spot the queen? Learn how the bees make honey and sample different kinds of honey. Discover how bees communicate by performing a bee boogey. Cost is $12/members $15/non-members. Children do not have to be accompanied by parents for this workshop. Register for the children and the adult bee workshop and get a $4.00 discount. Thomas the Tank Engine is set to roll into Felton’s Roaring Camp Railroads for the “Day Out With Thomas 2007: All Aboard Tour”. Day Out With Thomas is the only place for families to take a ride with a 15-ton replica of everybody’s favorite #1 engine, Thomas the Tank Engine! Come out and enjoy a 25-minute (approximate) ride with Thomas the Tank Engine, the chance to meet and take a photo with Sir Topham Hatt™, and visit A Thomas & Friends Imagination Station; featuring stamps, temporary tattoos, hands-on arts and crafts activities and coloring sheets. Yoga in the Park- Friends of Guadalupe River Park & Gardens presents this gentle introduction to yoga led by instructor Kristin Strellis. This course is designed to improve your flexibility, balance and relaxation. All necessary equipment will be provided for your use. Please dress in comfortable clothing and be ready to stretch and relax. This class will be taught outside on the grass. Sessions are held Thursdays from 6:15 – 7 p.m. Cost is $30 for GRPG members and $35 for non-members. Pre-registration is required and participants must be 18 years of age or older. Strength Training on the Guadalupe River Park Trail - Learn safe muscle toning and strength building exercises using fitness bands and park features. The A-B-C’s of Bee keeping. Join Santa Clara Valley Bee Guild and Delta Bee Club member, Alan Henninger, and the Friends of Guadalupe River Park & Gardens, from 10-11:30 a.m., for an adult program explaining the mysteries of bees. Learn what is required to set up a hive and get help identifying the inhabitants. Did you know that honey bees are not native to California, or that beekeepers rent out their hives to help pollinate fruit and nut trees? For an added bonus, Nella Henninger will show some of the by-products of beekeeping: honey and beeswax figures and candles. Gain a new found appreciation for some of the hardest working insects on our planet! Cost is $12/members $15/non-members. Attention recently retired or semi retired men! Sons in retirement (SIRS) meets on the second Thursday of each month at the Elks Club, 444 West Alma in San Jose for lunch. Join us for good food, great speakers and the chance to meet new friends. SIRS has many activities including bowling, golf computer clubs. SIRS has no initiation fees or dues. The San Jose Widow/Widowers Club meets at 12:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of every month for lunch at the Cup & Saucer Restaurant, 1375 Blossom Hill Road in Princeton Plaza. AARP Information Center needs volunteers to staff their office. Duties include helping seniors find various services and programs, and providing information on senior needs. Young Life Capernaum Project is sponsoring an Electronic Waste Recycling Event at Downtown College Prep (formally Hester Elementary School) parking lot at 1460 The Alameda in San Jose from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This is a free event.  Simply drive through and drop off your unwanted items, such as computers, small appliances, telephones, TV’s., etc., Please no freezers or refrigerators.

July 21
Almaden Valley Auto Festival: Over 100 Street Rod and Classic Cars will be on display at this family event, along with children’s games, a live band and a BBQ. The show is from 5 – 9 p.m. at South Hills Community Church, 6601 Camden Avenue. Admission is free. For more information call 414-3003.

July 27 – 29
It’s the festival you can smell a mile away! Gilroy’s 29th annual Garlic Festival is hailed as the “ultimate summer food fair”, and once again promises three days of incredible food, beverages, arts and crafts and live entertainment. This event is held at Christmas Hill Park, 30 miles south of San Jose off Highway 101. Hoursa re 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. all days. Tickets are $112 general, $6 for seniors and students ages 6 – 12 years.
