Dancin’ on the Avenue brings crowds, fun

It was the perfect afternoon and evening for the 2006 Dancin’ on the Avenue. The temperatures were warm, the bands were hot and people were enjoying themselves up and down Lincoln.

The crowd was at least as large as last year, possibly bigger than the 30,000 to 35,000 that attended the 10th Dancin’. There were large crowds for the bands and the Kids Court was bigger and more crowded than last year. A new band, the New Arrivals, joined perennial favorites the Joe Sharino Band, Daddy-O and NuDay.

A number of businesses and people sponsored the popular Kids Court. This year Tim Casey Construction was the main sponsor. He was joined by the Central YMCA, which offered carnival games and crafts. Sherry McGuire, owner of Alchemy Hair Studio again was chair of the area.

Located with the Kids Court was the Community Stage. This year’s performers included Nijmeh belly dancers, Nancy Doize School of Dance, Dance Kraze, San Juan Dance Studio, Atlas School of Dance, Dance Art Academy and Dance Masters Ballroom Dancing.

Three-year old twins, Beth and Ashley Joffe, dance for their father, Scott Joffe near the Longs Drugs Stage where NuDay was performing.
Anthony Rosalas, 9, and Andromeda Corral, 6, play flip the frog at a booth in the Kids Court. The Joe Sharino Band attracted a large dancing crowd, as usual.
