Ronald Reagan left ‘legacy’
Editor,
Here are a few facts on “the Reagan Revol-ution.”
The collapse of the Soviet empire was the result of a policy instituted by Democratic President Harry Truman and followed by every president since, including Reagan.
In El Salvador, Reagan and his vice president, later President Bush, supported with billions of U.S. tax dollars a regime that used “death squads” that killed indiscriminately innocent people including Jesuits and nuns.
Economically, Reagan raised taxes 12 times. President Carter left a deficit of $78.9 billion. Reagan had promised to balance the budget by 1984. After eight years of President Reagan’s administration, the deficit was $212.3 billion, after four years of the Bush Senior administration, the deficit was $331.8 billion.
Reagan left unconscionable budget deficits, which have more than tripled our national debt. The United States became a debtor for the time, unprecedented in history.
After 12 years of Reagan and Bush, the national debt was $4.3 trillion.
