Cinema San Pedro offers free summer movies

Cinema San Pedro is offering free movies on Wednesday nights this summer through Aug. 31. The cinema is located in downtown San Jose on San Pedro between Santa Clara and St. John streets. Films begin at sunset, with pre-show activities starting at 8 p.m. Parking is free after 6 p.m. in city lots. Bring your own lawn chair.

Cinema San Pedro includes Cinequest Maverick short films as well as uniquely themed entertainment on each evening. In the past, there were Klingons, gorillas, Kung fu masters, a killer rabbit, comedians and a bevy of high-jinx that often involved people walking away with cool prizes. It’s not just a screening, but an event.

This year’s schedule of movies includes:

- July 6—“All About Eve”

- July 13—“Animal House”

- July 20—“Top Gun”

- July 27—“The Road Warrior” and “Super Speedway” (San Jose Grand Prix Night at Cinema San Pedro!)

- Aug. 3—“Dirty Harry”

- Aug. 10—“Moonstruck”

- Aug. 17—“This is Spinal Tap”

- Aug.24—“Breakfast at Tiffany’s”

- Aug. 31—“Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”

Concessions open at 7:30 p.m. offering premium wine and ice-cold beer. Hip Pop will be selling bottled water, soda, candy and their famous popcorn, which comes in a variety of great flavors.

No outside food or drink will be allowed at the event, so leave the coolers in the car. Special deals on sponsoring restaurants can be found on the Cinequest Web site at www.cinequest.org.
