Willow Glen Kiwanis news
By Larry Shoemaker
Special to the Times
The Willow Glen Kiwanis Club put on a special guest day for potential new members. Held on May 12, eight guests attended, and several others rescheduled due to last-minute business obligations. Guest speakers were Jeff Kramer of Comedysportz and Paul DuBois of Kiwanis Division 12.
Comedysportz provides clean comedy routines similar to “Whose Line is it, Anyway?” Paul DuBois completed the program with a wonderful story illustrating how Kiwanis works to provide service and financial benefits in our community and around the world.
Our upcoming projects include the third annual Music in the Glen series and Kiwanis Nite at the San Jose Giants. The schedule for Music in the Glen this year will be Thursdays:
July 8 Sidesaddle (Country & Western)
July 15 The Hitmen (Rock & Roll)
July 22 The Classy Cats (40s)
July 29 Flashback (60s & 70s)
Aug. 5 The Joe Sharino Band
There should be something for just about everyone! Don’t forget to bring your blanket for the lawn or lawn chairs. Last year, we observed people of all ages dancing on the grass by the bands.
The Willow Glen Sunrisers—our neighborhood’s Kiwanis’ morning club—is arranging for the bands with the financial support of several local businesses. Our club is providing BBQ .The menu will include hot dogs, Polish dogs, popcorn, chips and drinks. Proceeds will be divided between the PTSA and local children’s benefit programs. We are looking forward to having the community come and join us for five evenings of wonderful music and food.
Finally, all of the clubs from Division 12 will get together for a great evening of Class A baseball with our San Jose Giants! The game will be Aug. 9 at 7 p.m. at San Jose Municipal Stadium; the Giants will play the Stockton Ports. Special activities will be scheduled before and during the game to make this the most memorable Kiwanis at the San Jose Giants ever! Guests of club members are encouraged to attend.
