Willow Glen, Cambrian area police report

Felon in possession of a concealed and loaded handgun

Willow and Bird
Day shift “gang car” 9797 made a traffic stop on a “Ancient Iron” motorcycle club member (a support club of the Hells Angels). Investigation found that the driver was a convicted felon, “driving out of class” and in possession of pepper spray and a concealed/loaded .44 Magnum revolver.

Auto theft, resisting arrest

Alma Avenue/S. 1st Street
An officer initiated a traffic stop for vehicle code violations on an unreported stolen vehicle. The driver stopped his vehicle and immediately fled on foot, jumping over multiple fences. Officers chased the suspect on foot and took him into custody. One officer sustained multiple scratches and abrasions from climbing over a chain link fence. The suspect was not injured and was booked into Juvenile Hall.

Auto burglary

900 block of Willow Street
Witnesses observed two suspects breaking into vehicles in the area. An officer responded and spotted the suspects leaving the area in a vehicle. Both suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. The officer gave chase and took one of the suspects into custody. He was positively identified and booked. Stolen property belonging to multiple victims was recovered from the suspect vehicle.

Strong arm robbery

1800 Block of Cody Way
An unknown male approached the female victim from behind and stole her purse. He fled eastbound Curtner in a vehicle driven by another party.

Unattended death

2500 Block of S Bascom Avenue
Relatives found the 87-year-old female unconscious and not breathing. She was pronounced dead by paramedics. The coroner responded and took charge of the remains.

Arson

1800 block of Fruitdale Avenue, Sherman Oaks Community Center
While responding to an intrusion alarm at an adjoining child development center, a small fire was discovered at the community center. A stack of pamphlets in a metal rack attached to the outside of the building had been ignited by unknown means. Damage was limited to the papers in the rack and paint damage to the rack.

Fatal traffic collision

2500 block of Schallenberger Road
San Jose Police officers responded on a call of an industrial accident, which had occurred in the parking lot of 2505 Schallenberger Road. Preliminary investigation showed that the victim and some co-workers had just finished work at a nearby site.
A coworker offered to drive the victim and another worker to their vehicles nearby. The victim and his coworker climbed into the bed of the pickup and both sat on the tailgate. The coworker drove slowly through the parking lot. At that time the victim stood up and seemed to step off of the back of the pickup, which was still moving very slowly. The victim fell to the pavement and struck the back of his head. Paramedics responded to the scene and rushed the victim to San Jose Medical Center where he underwent surgery for major head trauma. He died at the hospital on May 16.

Carjacking

2000 block of Southwest Expressway
The 39-year-old female victim and 40-year-old male suspect were driving in the vehicle together. The suspect demanded the vehicle from the victim. They got in a struggle over possession of the vehicle. The suspect pushed the victim out of the vehicle. The suspect drove away dragging the victim a short distance. The suspect is known to the victim and is still at large.

Robbery

Wells Fargo Bank, Lincoln Avenue/Willow Street
The victim had just withdrawn some money from an ATM at the Wells Fargo Bank on Lincoln Avenue. The suspect approached him and offered to sell him some merchandise, such as cameras. When the victim declined, the suspect took the victim’s wallet and money. The suspect left in a vehicle.

Community policing meeting

Sacred Heart Church
VCET Unit Commander attended the small climate meeting at the Sacred Heart Church. Topic of discussion was gang awareness. Deputy Chief O’Connor, Mayor Gonzales, Councilpersons Chavez and Gregory were also at the meeting.

Parole violation/resisting arrest/use of force

56 Glen Eyrie Avenue
Officers attempted to arrest the suspect for a parole violation. The suspect fled on foot and was pursued on foot by patrol officers. The suspect then took a combative stance and one of the officers used his Taser to subdue the suspect and take him into custody. The suspect was cleared at VMC and booked.

Vehicle pursuit (possible auto theft)

Almaden/Willow Glen Way
A vehicle with lost or missing plates was spotted in the above area. When the officer tried to initiate a vehicle stop, it fled. The pursuit was immediately called off. The driver has not yet been located. An officer followed up at the registered owner’s residence. The plates were taken from the victim’s vehicle. Officers were able to lift three fingerprints from the victim’s vehicle.

Death by natural causes

Greenmoor Drive
The 67-year-old male victim apparently fell face first after he had just gotten out of bed. Moments later, when his wife found him, he had no pulse and was bleeding from the head. He was pronounced dead shortly after being transported by EMS to Good Sam Hospital. He had diabetes and heart disease. There was no sign of foul play.

Disturbance, protesters

600 Palm Haven Avenue
SBC was working on a customer’s house at the above location. Four protesters were walking in front of this location with signs. SBC called the police and wanted the protesters removed. The protesters were on a public sidewalk. Both parties were talked to and were very cooperative.

Death investigation

1900 block of Kobara Lane
A 73-year-old male with a history of heart problems was found dead in his house by family members. The death appeared to be of natural causes. The coroner released the body.

Occupied residential burglary

925 Willow Leaf Court
Roommates discovered their apartment had been burglarized while both were asleep. Entry was made via a kitchen window and exit was made through the front door. This is similar to a nighttime burglary of another unit in this complex on May 17, 2004.

Burglary

1700 block of Clarence Court
District “Tom” Units responded on a burglary in progress. Officers found the lower panel kicked out of the garage door. The residence was secure and the suspects were scared off by the occupant. It was learned that two Filipino males in their early 20s escaped in a white, newer model, Toyota 4x4 pickup.

The information provided by the San Jose Police Department for the May Crime Report was incorrect. The station mentioned as selling cigarettes to minors in the April 13-14 report was the Shell Station.
