Miller Music in the Other Park concert series at St. James Park in downtown presents four free outdoor concerts each Thursday during the month of June. On June 3, listen to Latin jazz legend, percussionist and San Jose favorite Pete Escovedo. On June 10, Reggae artist Andrew Tosh pays tribute to his father, Wailers founding member and guitarist Peter Tosh, at the free outdoor concert. Art appreciation is on the move again in downtown San Jose! The San Jose Museum of Art commences its 2004 season of Art in Public Places Walking Tours. Beginning Monday, April 19, these free, 45-minute tours offer the local public an enjoyable lunch hour outdoors, or the opportunity for out-of-town art lovers to discover what San Jose has to offer. As the Museum itself is closed on Mondays, the Tours provide an excellent art-intensive alternative for both the general public and art enthusiasts alike. In spring and summer, San Jose Museum of Art docents lead tours of four different downtown art walks. All tours meet at the entrance to the Museum, in Fairmont Plaza. The four tours are offered on a rotating basis and run from April 19 through September 27, 2004. The Professional Division students of Ballet San Jose School (the non-profit school of Ballet San Jose Silicon Valley) presents a very special, End-of-the-Year performance at the Heritage Theatre at Campbell Community Center, 1 West Campbell Avenue,in Campbell. This performance will feature a new 35-minute original piece of choreography by Artistic Director Dennis Nahat and “Sunrise”, a 12-minute work with choreography by School Director Lise la Cour (featuring professional dancers Peter Hershey and Travis Walker.) SJSU will be sponsoring the 2004 Phil Johnson Spartan Basketball Camp at the SJSU Spartan Complex. The camp is geared towards boys ages 8 – 18 and will provide instruction in the techniques and fundamentals of basketball. The Rosicrucian Park will host a public unveiling of its newest addition, an 18th Dynasty Egyptian Peace Garden. All the plants slated for the new Peace Garden existed in ancient Egypt during the 18th Dynasty and will be planted in the period just before the full moon called the waxing moon. Peter Bindon, a botanist and anthropologist, is one of fourteen Grand Masters in the Rosicrucian Order (worldwide) and has designed an authentic garden reflecting this period in Egyptian history. Evergreen Valley College presents a teen and adult Summer Computer Camp, for ages 13 and up. The camp will be held in the new Library/Educational Technology Center on the EVC campus at 3095 Yerba Buena Road, San Jose. Catholic Charities’ Foster Grandparent Program is looking for persons over age 60 who are willing to give love and attention to children with special needs in the community. Participants must be on a limited retirement income to qualify, be in good physical health and be able to work four hours a day, five days a week. Crafters Who Care - Since this group began at the Evergreen Community Center one year ago, the Crafters
have donated over 400 handmade creations to needy children here in San Jose and around the world.
