Willow Glen, Cambrian Park Area Crime Report

Arson

Coastland Avenue/Curtner Avenue
At about 4:45 a.m. the police department was notified by fire department of four vehicles that had been set on fire at three different locations all in the general vicinity of Coastland and Curtner avenues. The fires were all set within a 45-minute time frame. The SJFD arson investigator responded and will be conducting the investigation. (See story in May Willow Glen Times.)

Use of Force/Parole Hold/Aid Request/Resisting Arrest

1500 block of Monterey
A parole agent requested an emergency police response at the above location. He had contacted an uncooperative parolee inside his apartment. The parolee was resistant and did not comply with the officer’s requests and became combative. Baton strikes were necessary to affect the arrest. The suspect was intoxicated and transported to VMC. He was released to the custody of the parole agent. An officer suffered a minor leg injury during the arrest.

Armed Robbery

1400 block of Lincoln Avenue
A suspect entered the Washington Mutual Bank and demanded money via a note to the teller. The suspect left the bank and the dye pack exploded. A witness observed the incident and followed the suspect. She obtained a license plate on the suspect vehicle. An officer checked the vehicle registered owner’s address and saw the vehicle parked in front of the complex. As he attempted to set up a perimeter, the suspect and a female companion got in the car and drove away. He initiated a car stop and detained the individuals. A witness from the bank responded to the scene and positively identified the suspect.

Carjacking

700 block of Locust Street
Two suspects jumped into the victim’s vehicle and forced him to drive to another location. The suspects pulled the victim out of the car and assaulted him. The suspects fled in the victim’s vehicle and are still at large.

Armed Robbery

Branham/Jarvis, the 7-11
The two unknown suspects entered the store, fired two shots from their pistols and demanded money. The suspects took cash and fled the scene. The clerk was not injured. An APB was broadcast via communications. The investigation is ongoing.

1800 block of Curtner Avenue
Two males entered the store with their faces covered. At least one was armed with a handgun and confronted the clerk and demanded money. The suspects fled after taking an undisclosed sum of money from the register and other items. The clerk was not injured.

Firearms Discharge

Minor/Virginia
Officers responded to the above area on a report of a subject firing a handgun. The adult male was seen walking down the street firing a gun. The suspect was gone upon officers’ arrival. There were 9mm shell casings were found at the scene. There was no property damage or injuries.

Bank Robbery

Lincoln and Minnesota
There was no weapon seen in the robbery of the Washington Mutual Bank. The male adult suspect fled south on Lincoln on a mountain bike.

Armed Robbery

1100 block of Lincoln Avenue
Four suspects armed with knives entered a business in the above location. They demanded and took money. They fled on foot and have not been apprehended. All suspects were male adults in their late teens to early 20s.

Burglary

2001 Cottle Avenue/Willow Glen High School
School district security responded to a burglar alarm in a classroom. Upon entering the room they confronted a male suspect who was hiding in a corner. The suspect was detained until officers arrived and took him into custody. The suspect turned out to be a 17-year-old student.

Robbery

1000 block of Lincoln Avenue
Three male adult suspects, approximately 30 years of age, approached the victim in the above area. They took money from the victim and fled in a dark colored vehicle. The suspects are still outstanding.

Armed Robbery

Butcher Park (Ross/Oakwood Avenue)
Officers responded to the home of a 15-year-old victim who reported just being robbed at gunpoint by three males in Butcher Park. All three suspects were described as wearing dark clothes, gloves, and ski masks. The victim was confronted on his way home from a fast food restaurant. His cell phone and money were taken. He was not injured. Officers arriving at the park were flagged down by a male and female who reported that they had also just been robbed at gunpoint by two males matching the description of the first case. They stated that both male suspects had handguns. The suspects demanded his wallet and her purse. The male victim initially refused to comply and was struck with a handgun resulting in a laceration. The suspects fled on foot.

Brandishing Weapon

Almaden/Virginia
A male subject lifted his shirt and showed the victim what appeared to be a handgun. Officers arrived on scene at which time the subject fled. Officers pursued the subject on foot and subsequently caught the suspect. The replica firearm was located. The suspect was arrested for the brandishing.
