Girl Scouts send cookies to troops
Third grader Adriana Piazza, a Brownie Scout with Troop 1283 from St. Christopher’s School, sold 300 boxes of Girl Scout cookies to Chuck and Missy Dimick of Monte Serreno.

So what’s this doing in the paper? This year, Santa Clara County Girl Scouts are sending cookies overseas to U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. Troops from the county are sending more than 40,000 boxes.
Thanks to the Dimicks, Adriana’s Brownie troop is sending 425 boxes, nearly a third of the 1,404 boxes the troop sold. It tickled Chuck to send the cookies to our soldiers overseas. Chuck even bent the rules a bit, requesting that his order include 100 boxes each of Thin Mints, Samoas and Do-Si-Dos.
The entire Girl Scout service unit, covering the area of Willow Glen and Cambrian, sold a total of 2,000 boxes of cookies. Troop leader Robin Leahey noted that it was a good experience for the girls to sell the cookies for our troops. “It allows them too step up and help or troops a little bit,” she said.
The Red Cross will be sending the first shipment overseas starting the week of April 25.
The Girl Scouts partnered with the Red Cross this cookie season, which just ended in Santa Clara County on March 20. The partnership made it possible for anyone to purchase cookies and donate their purchase specifically to our U.S. troops overseas. The Girl Scouts of Santa Clara County had a goal to send 10,000 boxes of cookies through community donations but they far exceeded that goal with help from the community.
More than 3,500 girls took part in making this sweet send off come to life.
