Brandishing/assault with deadly weapon
Shaw/Jarvis
A suspect assaulted victims with a baseball bat after a verbal argument. The victim’s friend assaulted the suspect with a wrench, striking him on the head. Both suspects were transported for medical treatment and arrested for assault with a deadly weapon on each other. No life-threatening injuries were received.

Fatal traffic collision
Meridian Ave. south of Fruitdale Ave.
San Jose Police officers responded to a traffic collision involving a car and a pedestrian at Meridian Avenue south of Fruitdale Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located an elderly male on the ground with serious injuries. Paramedics responded and transported the victim to a hospital where he died a short time later. Investigators from the Vehicular Crimes Unit responded to the scene. Preliminary investigation indicates the victim was not in a crosswalk when he crossed westbound Meridian Avenue. The victim was struck by a 1997 black Ford Explorer traveling northbound on Meridian Avenue. There is no indication of drug or alcohol influence.

Attended death
2500 block of South Bascom Avenue
The victim, a 67-year-old pancreatic cancer patient, succumbed to her disease. She was last seen by her doctor last Wednesday. The victim was found by her mother inside the victim’s residence. There were no signs of foul play.

Outside agency assist
1200 block of Wilo Mar Court
Santa Clara Detectives responded to conduct an ATL for a strong-arm robbery suspect at the above location. They requested SJPD units to assist. Before the arrival of SJPD units and once the detectives were inside the residence, the suspect hid from the detectives in a rear bedroom. Upon the arrival of SJPD, a perimeter was being set when the suspect was seen running in the backyard. The suspect was taken into custody without incident. The suspect was turned over to Santa Clara PD for further investigation.

The Child Exploitation Detail/Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force provided an Internet Safety presentation to approximately 150 seventh and eighth graders and faculty.

Robbery/hit and run
3900 block of S. Bascom Avenue
The suspect entered the Country Still Liquor Store and stole several DVDs. The storeowner attempted to stop the suspect as the suspect entered his van in the parking lot. The van backed away and struck the victim. The suspect fled the scene and is still outstanding. The victim sustained major injuries and was transported to VMC for treatment.

Taser deployment
800 Block of Palm Street
Officers responded to a disturbance involving a 30-year-old male adult. Upon contact he was agitated and refused to follow direction given by officers. He ran to a house and struggled with officers at the doorway. The subject tore off his shirt and advanced toward the officers. The subject was taken into custody. He was taken to VMC for custody clearance and booked.

Coroner’s case
1900 block of Harris
The elderly male suffered a medical seizure while speaking on the phone to a Kaiser advice nurse. Fire and AMR responded and pronounced him dead. There were no signs of foul play. The coroner investigator responded and took custody of the deceased.

Safe passage traffic safety program
Citywide
The Safe Passage Program concluded its third day of operation. The program, which is a collaborative effort between Traffic Enforcement and dayshift patrol teams, resulted in the issuance of 1,169 traffic citations, 279 warnings to motorists, 39 vehicles impounded and 14 arrests. The program, to ensure the safe passage of students to school, will continue the remainder of the week. In addition, the Department of Transportation has assisted by placing three of its’ radar display trailers and the police department’s two radar display trailers and message display board at various schools throughout the city.

Annoying children/resisting arrest
Doerr Park, Potrero/Wilshire
Citizens reported that a male suspect was watching children play in Doerr Park while masturbating in the bathrooms. The suspect fled upon the arrival of an officer who gave foot pursuit. An off-duty DOC officer playing tennis at the park assisted in the foot pursuit, making an open field tackle on the suspect. The suspect continued the fight with the officers. There were no injuries to the officers or suspect. The suspect was found to be in possession of methamphetamine for sales and a parolee at large. The motorcycle the suspect was in possession of was also confirmed as stolen. The suspect was taken to VMC for medical clearance before booking on the above charges.

Assault with a deadly weapon
Bascom/Fruitdale
The estranged wife, driving a station wagon, chased down her husband who was driving a motorcycle. She then proceeded to ram her vehicle into his motorcycle until he lost control and crashed. He sustained some scrapes/bruises and complained of pain. He refused medical attention. The female was arrested at the scene without further incident.

1900 block of Southwest Expressway
Officers responded to a report of an occupied suspicious vehicle. Upon arrival, they met with one of the occupants who was a parolee at large. Officers attempted to arrest the subject who then resisted and fought the officers. The suspect was booked at the county jail.

Suspicious behavior
7100 block of Fruitdale
Officers responded to several calls of a male subject looking into vehicles and jumping into backyards. Upon officer arrival, the subject began fleeing. The suspect broke into a residence while running from the officers.

Attended death
1100 block of Koch Lane
Officers responded to a report that a 76-year-old man had died at his home. The death had been expected as the man was suffering from several chronic/lethal diseases. His attending physician agreed to sign the death certificate and the coroner’s office provided a release number.
