The Cambrian Park Kiwanis Club has a busy schedule. Members are looking forward to the warm summer months that will include a number of activities and fund-raisers.

May activities include Turnaround Scholarships to be awarded on Wednesday, May 18 to students attending Leigh and Branham High Schools and Pine Hill Second Start School. The ceremony will take place at the Cambrian Park United Methodist Church and will likely include about eight scholarship winners.

In addition, the club will be involved with the cleanup at Lake Almaden scheduled for May 21 from 9-12, followed by a picnic lunch. Anyone who would like to help is invited, although parents of students under 18 must sign a release form. Also on May 21, from 8-10 a.m., the club holds it’s annual prayer breakfast, at the Cambrian Park United Methodist Church, 1919 Gunston Way, to raise funds to benefit the youth activities at a number of churches in the community.

Numerous Kiwanis clubs, including Cambrian Park, will help 750 handicapped children with positive achievements at the Kiwanis Special Games to be held at De Anza College Friday, May 20 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

June will bring our first golf tournament to be held at Coyote Creek Golf Course. The tournament is set for June 10, beginning at 11 a.m. Golfers will enjoy a box lunch and dinner follows with some raffle items available All profits will benefit the Silicon Valley Children’s Hospital Foundation. For more information, call Bill Arlt at 356-3641.

July includes our second annual Summer Music Camp to be held at St. Stephen’s School, 420 Allegan Circle, from July 18-29. We will offer marching band, small ensembles, jazz, choir and guitar lessons. July 18-29. For more info, call Kristin Engineer at 206-5139.

We have planned our second Super Huge Rummage Sale in the parking lot of the Cambrian Park United Methodist Church during July. While the date has not yet been set, it will likely be during the second half of the month.

The club continues to collect ink jet cartridges, old cell phones and old lap top computers. These discarded items help pay for the turnaround scholarships.
