Tackling park maintenance
Editor,
I'm quite pleased that one of the first items that our new District 6 Councilmember Pierluigi Oliverio is willing to tackle is the current state of maintenance of our city parks. His pilot program has targeted the Municipal Rose Garden, a San Jose historic landmark.
This park host visitors from all over the region and will host a contingent from Japan later this month. While other parks in District 6 are certainly in similar states of disrepair, a pilot program such as this needs to start somewhere. This landmark is a perfect choice.
In the meantime, the budget process in ongoing, and we can cross our fingers that all of our parks, from the neighborhood ones, to the pocket parks, will get the funding levels they deserve. Kudos to Oliverio for hitting the ground running with innovative proposals.

Please don’t take the flowers
Editor,
We have been asked by the Willow Glen Business Association to spruce up our sidewalks. I have done so by adding to my flower boxes outside my business at Spa R&R, only to have people consistently be breaking off the
flowers.
Today I actually saw a woman who pulled out the whole plant, which I retrieved from her. Is there something lacking in human beings who destroy things of beauty? I have now moved my plants to where they will be enjoyed without being destroyed: my home.
