Vice Mayor awards volunteers
On Thursday, Feb. 5, the Friends of the Butcher Dog Park received the California Park and Recreation Society District IV Volunteer/Sponsor Citation Award for their time and efforts at Butcher Dog Park. Since the park’s opening in August 2007, the group, which consists of nearly 50 dog lovers from the neighborhood, has donated more than 1,200 volunteer hours to keep the dog park safe, clean and friendly for the entire community. The Friends have also worked toward adding extra amenities such as planting 15 trees and raising funds for an additional park bench. Accepting the award were Anna and Jim LaFrom, Friends of Butcher Dog Park and Andrew Guerreiro, a park maintenance employee from the city of San Jose.
